Continuum Vlasov & Kinetic Simulation
Particle-in-cell methods carry statistical noise that can bury subtle kinetic effects: weak instabilities, phase-space holes, low-density tails and wave–particle resonances. Continuum (grid-based) Vlasov solvers remove that noise entirely. Few groups worldwide offer them as a service. As our name suggests, this is our home ground.
Sound familiar?
- ●Particle noise is masking a weak instability or small growth rate.
- ●You need clean velocity-space structure: phase-space holes, beams or tails.
- ●Your reduced (fluid or gyrokinetic) model needs a high-fidelity kinetic reference.
- ●You want to cross-check a PIC result with a completely independent method.
What we offer
Vlasov–Poisson & Vlasov–Maxwell studies
Electrostatic and electromagnetic continuum simulations in 1D–2D phase space, and beyond with modern solvers.
PIC vs. continuum cross-validation
The same problem solved by two independent kinetic methods: the strongest verification available.
Kinetic references for reduced models
High-fidelity data to calibrate or validate fluid closures, gyrokinetic and machine-learned models.
Solver selection & setup
Guidance on open continuum codes (e.g. Gkeyll, Vlasiator) and in-house solvers, with GPU setup.
Frequently asked
When should I choose Vlasov over PIC?+
When noise matters more than geometry: weak growth rates, resonant particles, tails and fine velocity-space structure. PIC remains better for large, complex 3D geometries. We help you choose.
Is it more expensive?+
Phase space is six-dimensional, so cost grows quickly with dimensionality. For reduced-dimensional problems it is often cheaper than a PIC run with enough particles to beat the noise.
